Case Study
Cyber Security Staff Training
I created a self contained Web Application to use as part of a security focussed company day that I organised and ran.
The day included a location where all staff could, at any point throughout the day, come and test their skills to becore a cyber hero!
The day was a major success and had overwhelming positive feedback from staff and management
With the rise in attacks on end users and increasing attempts on the rail industry, it was crutial that we ensure all company staff were provided engaging training to prepare for these new sophisticated threats. At this current point in time, we were investigating a paid for service but had not yet reached a point of purchasing and rolling out to members, which is why I took the initiative and created one.
- Low Cost: The solution needed to be low cost as we were already looking to purchase a training system in the future
- Short and Sharp: We needed to get through all the staff on the day so we needed a solution that could delivery training in a quick 10-15 minutes
- Engaging: The solution needed to look and feel engaging for staff to retain the information
To meet these requirements and deliver high quality training sessions to all company staff, I created a web application using a single HTML file which included the functionality and styling, and hosted this on my personal GitHub site.
The first thing I needed to do was come up with an idea for the layout, to which was farly straight forward as there are a lot of resources online that gave me inspiration.
I then needed to come up with a series of questions and information I wanted to get across to staff about key cybersecurity hygeine, which again was easily done with my current knowledge and some google searching.
Once I had all the questions and rought layout planned, I used Gemini to bring my application to life. Gemini was able to create all the courses and questions how I wanted it, and even add some competition elements for who can complete the fastest.
From there it was a case of transfering the html file onto my GitHub site, carrying out a round of testing with the IT team, as well as confirmation from the board that this was suitable.
The training proved to be a major success with all staff getting invovled.
- 100% Staff Completion: All staff that attended that day completed the training
- Overwhelming Positive Feedback: A feedabck form was sent out after the day, receiving overwheling positive feedback
- Met Requirements The solution met all requirements that I was given
